Pick No. 20 – WTF?

There will be plenty of message board rants going around about how a list of probable talents were available when the Charlotte Bobcats selected the 20th pick of the draft. Most will make noise about how the team overlooked some of the more well-known players available (Chalmers / Jordan ). NBA execs don’t really listen to those rants. NBA execs don’t seem to listen to the supposed “draft experts”. NBA execs usually do what they want to do and the fans are lucky if everyone is on the same page.

The Bobcats pulled out a strange book and shared an odd passage for us on Thursday night. Had any of the experts predicted that Larry Brown or Jordan were all that interested in a foreign Center? Did any local media cover how much the Bobcats needed another “Ryan Hollins-like” big man? Were any of the fans begging for the Bobcats to trade for a late first-round pick to nab up a guy that averages 5 pts in the French league?

The selection of Alexis Ajinca was strange. Still, one must commend him for appearing at the draft and walking across the stage. His workout must have really impressed Larry Brown. Otherwise, he might have been a backup plan with Roy Hibbert already off of the board. As no one has seen Ajinca’s game, the excitement lies in the 7′, 220lb, 20 yr old potential.

This is just to get the opinion of others but would the Bobcats be interested in trading with the knicks to get Eddy Curry? He is not horrible, young and experienced. Also the count down to the Lebron sweepstakes under way, and Curry would be a players that NY needs to move to free up money. I don’t know about his contract though and if the Cats could make it fit but would/should the Bobcats go after Curry?

  2. Eddy Curry, hmmm. Doesn't he have a huge contract?

    The big concerns :

Would he play the kind of defense that Larry Brown would need out of a big man?

Does he compliment Okafor? That's the only need to get a big veteran.

If Emeka leaves, anyone is an option. Therefore, Eddy Curry can't be ruled out. Then again, the Cats may just not have the cap space for him.

I love the speculation for the Lebron sweepstakes. NY and NJ are bracing for him, but what if he ended up with the Clippers?

No way on Curry. I don't understand why everyone thinks we need a center. Okafor, though a little undersized, is a center. His strengths are rebounding, guarding the basket, and rebounding. He has no offense outside of 6-8 feet, and has no business defending anyone beyond there either. Behind Okafor, we have a serviceable backup: Nazr Mohammed. And behind Mohammed, the projects: Ryan Hollins and Ajinca. So center is not a need.

What we need is an offensively-minded, but ultimately well-rounded PF type to pair with Okafor. Rasheed Wallace would be perfect. The closest thing to that profile in the draft would have been Kevin Love. Here's hoping that the answer is actually right under our noses: a healthy, returning Sean May. However, I have major questions regarding May's ability to guard some of the quicker, more perimeter-oriented PFs even if he's totally healthy – and if he can't, then we're right back where we started.

    Get Rasheed!

are people in other NBA cities laughing out loud right now about this pick? did the Bobcats feel pressured to pick some really tall dude because the average height of their other two picks is 5'6"? how does gerald wallace fell right now? "well gerald, we tried to trade you, but, well, no one really wanted you that bad. no hard feelings, right?" i was reading an article in the herald(by far the authority on all things charlotte bobcats) and they were destroying rod higgins and jordan. apparently, higgins had to spend friday's press conference defending the picks. in my opinion, this should be a time for excitement and optimism, not a time for having to get slaughtered by the media for making poor draft selections. as for jordan, well, he wasn't there. nice move jordan. bob and weave, bob and weave. great basketball player does not translate into great front office man(see isiah thomas for further references. and if anyone says joe dumars, i'm coming after them.) higgins while trying to defend his picks, said, " raymond is today our starting point guard." does that mean the season is still going? are the bobcats playing the atlanta dream tonight? as for the 3rd pick, well, there's nothing to say. for more info on the bobcats draft, check out <a href="http://www.worsedraftever.com/sambowie” target=”_blank”>www.worsedraftever.com/sambowie

Looking ahead to next season, as of now will Okafor be playing center or PF (which i think would be a mistake)? Also has there been any updates on May and Morrison and their rehab? I saw somewhere today that May was thinking of retiring? Does that mean that his knees are not getting better or what?
