WOW Journal Forecasts Playoffs in Bobcats Future
More Optimism for Bobcats fans!
David Berri over at The Wages of Wins Journal has weighed in on the Bobcats playoff odds for next season. The results? Surprisingly positive.
Berri is also one of the few stat-geeks who thinks that the Bobcats won out in the Emeka Okafor/Tyson Chandler swap.
That guy over at wages of wins sure says "metric" a lot. He must not know what he's talking about huh?
I think he's just really into the band Metric.
The Bobcats need to get Monta Ellis form Warrioi=rs and they will be granted a playoff spot.

You don't really have Miami sending out Beasley & Cook while only getting VladRad back do you? I know he's having issues, but that's massively underpaying for his talents.
Funny thing…Hollinger's Analysis has 0 effect when swapping out VladRad & Raja for Thaddeus Young & Monta Ellis.
Can't really comment one way or the other on WoW, but I share the optimism.
has anything else been said bout an ellis trade or on mccants.
Yea he would never use it to talk about how he measures something. That would make no sense right Adam?
Anyone ever read the Wages of Wins book? I got it for Xmas last year and keep meaning to pick it up. I'd love a review if someone has read it.
I haven't read the book, but the blog makes for an interesting read if you're the type who lives for quantifying sport. A warning though, the WoW guys are academic types. The material can be dry and difficult to understand for many. Of WoW's critics, some are spot on (free darko) while others are clearly in over their heads (rufus on fire).
If you haven't read the free darko book, I highly recommend it.
Guys-
The Ellis rumors seem to be slow and steady, nothing electric quite yet but August/September are the slowest months of the offseason so that's not surprising. Players and execs are getting their R&R whilst they can before camp opens.
What I'm interested in is if the deal goes down (and for simplicity, lets say it's just a two-team deal), then what exactly will the Bobcats be giving up in the trade?
In one scenario, you could see the Bobcats basically offering the Warriors a salary dump. Raja Bell and Nazr Mohammed for Monta Ellis. GS takes on roughly $17 million in financial commitments over the next 2 seasons while the Bobcats inherit the rest of Monta's 5 year, $55 million contract.
Now, would the cash-starved Bobcats make such a trade? Who knows but it could explain some of the reasoning behind the Tyson Chandler deal.
Yall couldnt offer allen iverson a 1 year 3.5 million dollar deal. What on earth makes you think they would take on Monta's deal?
the bobcats really screwed up by not picking up AI. The story of AI and coach Brown reuniting would have been amazing. Whatever, water under the bridge i guess.
Bell and Nazr for Ellis would be a steal for the Bobs. Almost sounds too good to be true.
I'm just worried that we're going to try and trade one of our PGs for him Ellis and start him at the 1. As much as Felton is not a star, I think our best chances for winning next season are to have him and D.J. sharing time at the point.
sorry would not be part of the trade
Getting rid of Nazr offsets some of the added money that Ellis brings. Most importantly, Ellis playing the 2 makes the team qualitatively better and more balanced. That means more ticket sells, jersey sells, etc. That makes the team easier to sell. I’m not saying it will happen or anything, but in the long run, Ellis makes more sense than AI.
By the way, this is coming from the perspective of someone who supported the signing of Iverson. I just don’t think it’s a travesty that Charlotte chose not to sign him.
i dont see them gettin rid of bell somewhere i read that hes moving to charlotte and LB loves him. Ellis would be great to have on the team but i really think bell would be part of the trade
Danny-
I’ve seen that too. Combined with Raja’s regional Sprite campaign, it would seem that he has reason to stay put.
I can’t think of who else would fit in the trade beyond Raymond, Gana, Mohammed or Radman.
A first rounder doesn’t make much sense because it’s so rare that a team trades out two future first rounders at the same time (we already owe one to Denver).
Either way, it’s going to be interesting to see if the team makes an aggressive move to improve scoring through a trade or takes the conservative approach by signing a role player like McCants.
If they go with the latter, I just hope that it’s Augustin who is given the green light late in the game over Raymond. With the Felton as the your go-to 4th quarter option, no way the playoffs are a possibility.
