Bobcats Look To Ride Twilight Vampire Craze

Bobcats Looking To Sign Another Forward

The Charlotte Bobcats continue their efforts to build depth and find quality role players this summer. The Arizona Republic and The Charlotte Observer have reported that the team has been in contact with Phoenix Suns free agent Louis Amundson. If the team were successful in signing Amundson, this could signal further shifts to the Bobcats roster.

Who Is Louis Amundson?

Okay, so you look at Louis Amundson and the first thing that comes to mind is “Vampire”, right? I expected to run a Google search and find a heartwarming, local newspaper article about how he’s worked hard to overcome the bias and adversity of adjusting to the US since his arrival from Transylvania. Over the past two seasons he’s been praised for his hard work on the court with the Phoenix Suns, but his extensive efforts to wear that mouthpiece and pretend to be a normal human are never recognized.

It appears that the Bobcats may be in line to capitalize on circumstances that will follow Amundson throughout his NBA “life.” The 6’9″ forward/vampire is destined to spend his entire career on the move, hoping no one will notice that he never ages. After breaking into the NBA from the D-League, he played just one game for Utah before heading East to avoid the suspicious eye of Jazz coach Jerry Sloan (estimated to be 95 yrs old).  Amundson  spent the following two NBA seasons working to learn the intricacies of modern human life and the dynamics of a team locker room with the Philadelphia 76ers. This experience prepared him for a more productive role with the Phoenix Suns.

After the November 2008 release of the highly anticipated first Twilight film, Amundson realized that America embraced and celebrated his kind. His new sense of comfort began to show immediately. Over the next few months, he thrived in a more vampire-appropriate pace of offense with Phoenix. It could be argued that as he got more minutes on the court, his teammates actually began to run faster on the break just to get distance from him. It’s been speculated that after his first season, the Suns were forced to trade away Shaq after coach Alvin Gentry reviewed hours of game footage and noticed the way Amundson would watch O’Neal as slow and easy prey.

Now that Louis Amundson is once again looking to relocate and avoid suspicion, Charlotte hopes that he can invigorate their front line or at least give Larry Brown the gift of immortality. In order to compete with the other teams courting Louis Amundson, the Cats could offer him on an incentive-based contract to keep the base salary numbers low, as well as encourage Amundson to avoid biting season ticket holders or Rufus, the team mascot.

Notes : Louis Amundson may not be an actual vampire. My initial guess had him as a big man from somewhere in Europe. That, too, is probably wrong. It looks like Amundson was born in California, grew up in Colorado, and went to college at UNLV.  He was not an actor in The Lost Boys. Who knew?

  1. Bobcats fans-

Expect this guy to be in the Jake Voskuhl mode. Hustle-stats galore with a penchant for mixing it up with the opposing team's elite frontcourt players. As a fan of Nash, I've watched many a game with monsignor Amundson and I've liked the output.

Dude is the anti-Diaw. Nowhere near the skillset but his "Bojangle Hustle-Stat" factor is off the chart. Depending on the money, I'm all for this move.

Fortunately Amundson doesn't make the Blue-Steel face nearly as much as Rob-sessed and isn't perpetually on the verge of vomiting like Kristen Stewart. That should bode well for him during his first season with the team.

  2. Justin – I would bet that adding Amundson would give the team an overabundance at the PF / C spot.

    Diaw (likely to be traded)

    Dampier (likely waived)

It seems like everyone expects Dampier to be cut or traded and Diaw has been offered up this summer, so we could bet that one or both of those guys will be heading out of Charlotte.

If Nazr can give the same kind of play that he did last season, the Cats should be okay with that. Tyrus Thomas might not start at Center, but in Larry Brown's system, it's likely he'll close games playing at that spot. Having Amundson as a backup PF and closing at that position would likely work out well for the Bobcats.

This kid does all the little things that are not shown in a stats sheet. He is a taller and more athletic "Jared Dudley". He is the kind of guy that is always in the right place, at the right time and takes advantage of it.

for role players, i dont think stats say everything. If you ever saw Amundson play for the suns, his hustle plays are really really good. a really good team player, do what the coach does and hustle every minute on the court, just like our CRASH but less athletic.

  5. Brett

He hustles. He is the kinda of guy there needs to be more of in the NBA. Not the most talented but he could soak up some minutes at Center which he can also play and we need very desperately right now. He is a larry brown type of guy. Hope we get him.

  6. Bobcats Orange?

The horse is dead. Put down the stick. Count how many vampire jokes you just made in a row.

Najera and Amundson would have to signal the end of Borris Diaw. We still don't have a point guard. Maybe we can call Toronto back up?

  7. Jared

I like the addition of Amundson, but if we do this and don't trade Diaw for a solid pg, then we've got a lot of mediocre 4 on the roster.

BC Orange. I was initially excited about the Calderon trade, but considering how overpaid the guy is, I'm more ambivalent about the move now.

  8. RobC

Calderon is not the answer. He is an average PG being paid like an All-Star. He will earn more money in the next three years than, Jameer Nelson, Rajon Rondo, Mo Williams and Monta Ellis; and he is nowhere near the quality of those guys.

Calderon's contract has a trade kicker of 10% that he is not willing to waive. That amounts to 3Yrs/$33Millions. That is "WAY TOO MUCH MONEY".

I'm not sure how great this would be, but given this comment from ESPN (See below) and the history between GSW and CLT. Would it be possible that Monta Ellis and Andris Biedrins could be headed to the Bobcats. After all: Dampier, Diaw & Diop for Ellis and Biedrins will work perfect and will save the Warriors a ton of money, which is their main purpose.

"(Incoming owner Joe Lacob did interviews on radio and TV on Tuesday and revealed some of his thoughts on the Warriors.

According to Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News, Lacob said he will be very active on the basketball side of the organization. Lacob added that he liked the trade for David Lee and his $80 million contract. Futher, Lacob indicated he's not sure Don Nelson should coach the team this upcoming season, and that the club's salaries won't exceed the luxury-tax threshold.

Kawakami wrote the following about potential trades: "Lacob sounded a lot more excited about Lee and Stephen Curry than he did about Monta Ellis and Andris Biedrins. Nothing wrong with that. I wouldn't presume that these guys will definitely be traded. But it's also something everybody in the league will be watching.")"

That will also feel a need for the Bobcats and we can sign "The Vampire" as a 2nd/3rd Center with Nazr. I don't love this trade, but I don't hate it either. I believe Ellis defense is underrated and that he can be a pretty good PG. Biedrins is an Int'l guy (LB Type) almost 7-foot that can defend and put up 10/8ppg-10/8rpg-2bpg with the Bobcats defensive system.

That would make the Bobcats 3-4 deep in almost every position, it will improve their offense "SIGNIFICANTLY" and I don't think it would hurt the defense much. That roster can be a Top 5 in Defense and Top 12 in Offense (again, it reminds me of the 2004-2005 Detroit Pistons). And if there is a coach that can make that work, is Larry Brown!

I still want Paul, but I'm thinking more and more it's not happening. So with that said, I'd be happy with this trade. I think it fills two big needs for us, with two very capable players. But would that make us the GS Warriors of the east?? (Ellis, Biedrins and JAX starting) :)

  11. justin

If you think we'd get Jamison with Mo Will and Varejao, you're friggin out of your mind…Mo and V is all we'd get. I like that trade but I'd love to see the Warriors trade if CP3 can't be pulled off. But I gotta say this guys…I was exchanging emails with Bonnell earlier today…he thinks it's likely this team stays pat until after the season starts. I think it's ridiculous to think the season starts with the roster in place now, but I can also see it happening. Still feel like MJ is positioning for something, but it remains to be seen.

  12. EmeGuys, Shaun Livingston is not a SG. He’s 6’7″, but his game is that of a PG. He has excellent court vision and distributor.
Adding Amundson doesn’t do anything. He’s essentially the same player as Eduardo Najera, and we don’t need that.
Trading Dampier, Diaw, and others for Mo Williams, Varejao, and Jamison makes great sense. They save a ton of money plus get a valuable forward in Diaw. I like Arenas/McGee/Blatche, CP3/Emeka/Posey or Monta Ellis rumors too.

Michael Jordan may be the smartest owner alive

Latest buzz: Shaq, T-Mac, more – Truehoop Blog – ESPN

    Brown's price tag

Question: Why did all the rumblings about Larry Brown wanting to leave the Bobcats to coach the Sixers or Clippers instead, so prevalent in May and June, quietly fade away?

One answer: NBA coaching sources say that Bobcats owner Michael Jordan made it clear to Brown and any interested team that the Bobcats would insist on compensation — presumably draft considerations — to let Brown out of his contract.

realgm is saying tht Shaq is looking for a sign and trade from Cleveland ik he would make mre money but maybe we can trade for Mo williams too
