Just prior to 4:00 PM ET, the Charlotte Bobcats announced that Larry Brown has stepped down as head coach of the Charlotte Bobcats. Here are some initial links:
Official Press Release | Letter to the fans
Sam Amick of AOL is reporting that the entire coaching staff has been let go. Amick goes on to report that the new coach will be in place tomorrow.
This is a bit of a surprise. I honestly thought that if Brown left, assistant coach Dave Hanners would get a chance as an interim coach. I have no idea who will be stepping in. Keep an eye out on this post and our Twitter feeds (Dr. E, ASChin, Cardboard Gerald) for updates and further discussion.

UPDATE 5:00 PM: Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! and Ken Berger of CBSSports.com are reporting that former Hornets and Cavs coach (and current Charlotte resident) Paul Silas is the leading candidate to take over as coach of the Bobcats. Former Hawks coach Mike Woodson, current Magic assistant/former Jordan rival Patrick Ewing, and current Pistons assistant Darrell Walker are also under consideration.

Update 7:00 PM: And it’s official. The Bobcats have named Paul Silas interim head coach. Yahoo!’s Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that Charles Oakley is likely to be added as an assistant coach. Silas will be meeting with the media tomorrow at 1:00 PM ET and will have more details about the rest of his staff at that time.

Thanks Larry, we’ll never have a “Hall Of Famer” here again. Silas is an antique, Ewing has no experience and no rings, Woodson failed in ATL with monster talent. Should have let Dave Hanners take it. I’m sure he would have implemented new ideas and the players are familiar with him. Plus MJ would have gotten him cheap. :(
I’ve been calling for Larry to step down for weeks now and now that the time is here, I’m just indifferent until I hear who the new coach is. I thank Larry for the good times and hopefully in time, I’ll forget the bad times.
It’s official: Paul Silas to coach the Bobcats on an interim basis: http://www.nba.com/bobcats/release_silas_101222.html
Charles Oakley? Maybe he could help Boris Diaw and Eduardo Najera toughen up. No, wait. I don’t want to see Najera back on the court.
Wow. That was quick.
When the going gets tough… Larry hits the road.
I hope they Cats can use the next 6 days (maybe not Xmas) as a mini-training camp to get working under Paul Silas.
I bet the Observer’s Rick Bonnell hates that this is all going down on his one week off during the year.
hopefully, Silas, will stop the insanity and start playing they guy who actually gives you a chance to compete: Tyrus Thomas. But, then again, he doesn’t possess the most progressive basketball mind, either, and probably has no clue about things like PER and +/-. The entire team can’t score, and you keep a guy who is ranked ELEVENTH in the entire NBA in PER on the bench. A guy who is several points above Stephen Jackson in points per possession and is your BEST shot blocker. Idiots deserve what they get. Michael Jordan being the second biggest IDIOT GM in the business after Sterling.
I feel like Larry has been disgruntled ever since those off-season rumors of him going back to Philly began circulating.
If the playoffs weren’t already out of the picture, they definitely are now.
Do we just clean house at this point?
finally, huggy bear is back….in charlotte!!!!(crowd cheers)i think the players will respond to silas much better than some 70 year old white dude that complains about gas prices.
Silas is 67 to Larry Brown’s 70.
i just read charles oakley is going to be his lead assistant. hell yeah. 1990’s basketball. no more “i’ve got a tattoo. i’m a tough guy”. no more “i’ve got the new jordans!!” no more “i’m thirsty.” i guarantee then bobcats will lead the league in flagrant fouls from this point on.
Hopefully this means Eddie Robinson is coming back too.
Yep, Jason. We should see Eddie back in no time
